As we follow Jesus to the Cross, as we focus on his sufferings, his passion, it can be a temptation to focus on our own sufferings as well. But this is a distraction. All other days of the year God gives to us to consider our own sufferings. But, on this day, we are called to lay aside self-consideration. We are called to follow Jesus, and to look upon and sorrow for him alone. When Pilate said, “Behold the Man!”, he spoke the only known prophetic words of his life. That is our spiritual work this day; Behold Jesus!
