We love children at Christ Church! Children are an active part of our worship life here. We offer many ways for your children to participate.
During the service, you are welcome to keep your children with you in the pew, leave them in the nursery with our trained childcare workers, or send them Children’s Chapel for part of the service, or a combination.
Children’s Worship Bags are at the entrances to the sanctuary and are filled with coloring books, Bible story books, and other activities to engage your children during worship. (Please return the bags and toys/crayons/markers/etc. after the service.)
Childcare is available from 8:45am to 12:15pm for infants and toddlers in our nursery that is filled with books and toys. The nursery is next to the Parish Hall. You are welcome to come and get your child from the nursery at the Peace so that they can share in communion with the congregation.
Children’s Chapel is offered during both Sunday services for children PreK – 2nd grades. Children begin in the nave with their parents and leave for Children’s Chapel before the lessons. Children’s Chapel includes music, prayer and lectionary-based Bible stories. Children return to the nave at the Peace to share in Communion with the congregation. Volunteers are often needed to assist the chapel leaders.
Take-a-break spaces are available if your child needs a break from the service. Both the library (near the Parish Hall) and the narthex (church entrance area) have speakers so that you can still hear the service even if you are not in the nave.
Sunday School is held from 10:00-10:45am for children grades PreK & up (parents decide whether a young child is more appropriate for nursery or Sunday School) from mid-September through May. Sunday School time includes a prayer, a story, and an activity and classes are led by volunteers. No registration is necessary for Sunday School, just come a few minutes early to help your child get situated. Sunday School is held in multiple rooms around the building and organized around grades. Look for signs for the classroom for your child(ren) or please ask a staff member for assistance.
Youth Acolytes serve at both services on most Sundays. Our acolytes help the liturgist set the table for Eucharist at both services and carry the cross or a torch at the 11 am service. Children who are in third grade and up are eligible to be trained as acolytes. Training is usually in October, but individual training can occur at any time.
Children’s Choir offers their voices in song to the congregation twice a year, during the Advent and Easter seasons. They rehearse on Monday evenings from 6:30-7pm, for the five-six weeks prior to their musical offering. We invite children in Kindergarten and up to participate. Older children may have the opportunity to ring handbells depending on the selection of music.
