Preparing for the tomb

“Resurrection takes care of itself; it’s getting people into tombs that’s hard.” Henri Nouwen’s words on the first Sunday of Lent remind us that the tomb is a prerequisite to resurrection. Moving towards the tomb starts with recognizing and resisting the temptations to define one’s self by what you do, what you have, and what others say about you.

Bless: You’re Probably Doing It Now

We continue with our Way of Love series and reflect on Bless: unselfishly loving and serving as we go about our daily lives. Jesus advocates for a culture of generosity in the Golden Rule and that culture is the foundation of being a Blessing to others, no matter what we are doing with our lives. Luke 6:27-38

REST – do people do that in DC?

Rest, the fifth spiritual practice in the Way of Love series, has been identified as the most difficult practice for the majority of Episcopalians in our area. Rest, though, is a priority for God and should be a priority for us.

Turn – Go Deep and Return to the Way of Jesus

This week in our Way of Love preaching series, we examine “turn”: to pause, listen, and choose to follow Jesus. Choosing to follow Jesus doesn’t just happen once, but over and over again when we stray from the path of Jesus in our weakness. Luke 5:1-11.

Learn – The Words of God are Living and Active

In our second sermon in our Way of Love sermon series, we explore the theology and practicalities of Learn: reading and reflecting daily on Scripture, especially the teachings and life of Jesus. Heb. 4:12-16, Mt. 13:44-53 Here’s a link to our resources page for The Way of Love series.

Introducing the Way of love

Jesus’ baptism in Luke lifts up the work of the Holy Spirit. The first sermon of the Way of Love series reflects on the ways we live out our baptism and engage the Spirit in our lives. Here’s a link to our resources page for The Way of Love series.

Your Pathway to the Manger

Like the Magi, we make our own pathway to the manger. Starting with little faith or much faith, we follow our own stars, ask our own questions, bring our own gifts, as we seek the child, the King of the Jews. Mt. 2:1-12
